This term stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The protocol has to do with how the Internet formats and trasmits messages(Beal).

A tag is an element in a coding document that is begins and ends with angle brackets. They allow for special effects on the actual website, such as separation of text into paragraphs.
